Guillaume Néry | Beautiful Underwater Base Jump

World champion freediver Guillaume Néry stages an incredible 202 meter (663 Ft) underwater base jump at Dean’s Blue Hole located in the Bahamas. Dean’s Blue Hole is the deepest blue hole in the world and it was filmed entirely on breath holds by Guillaume Néry’s girlfriend french free diving champion Julie Gautier. This four minute video is an amazing example of exploring the capabilities of the human body as well as a fantastically orchestrated beautiful example of great videography. Watch and be inspired after the jump!

Guillaume Nery and myself decided to use our time during a freediving competition at Dean’s Blue Hole (deepest blue hole in the world) to make a short movie. For a long time, Guillaume has wanted to make the link between freediving and base jumping. Our goal was to emphasise on esthetic images and innovative camera moves.” – Julie Gautier

While the dive it self is a staged act (a 200 meter free dive is impossible) the video is still an incredable form of achieving Guillaume’s goal of showing a correlation between freediving and basejumping.

I never pretended to reach the bottom. It’s impossible and no one will ever do it. The movie was an artistic creation – a fiction movie – that took four afternoons of diving to get all the shots. We just wanted to show another approach of freediving. For me freediving means to be in harmony with the elements, it means exploring the unknown. We tried to express this feeling in this video.”- Guillaume Néry
