Jamel Shabazz: Street Photographer trailer

Jamel Shabazz is a street photographer that captured the Wild Style Hip Hop era in New York City during the 1980's.
He is Dope.

Jamel Shabazz- Street Photographer 74 min 2011 by Charlie Ahearn
This is the story of Jamel Shabazz, whose twenty five year mission to create a portrait of the Hip Hop generation became a world wide phenomenon with his book “Back In The Days”. Charlie Ahearn, director of the classic movie Wild Style, follows Jamel’s journey from his Brooklyn youth, through army service and work as a corrections officer, to his decisive photographic interactions on the streets and subways of New York. Interviews with Hip Hop legends such as Fab 5 Freddy, DJ Bobbito Love and KRS One, as well as with Jamel’s numerous portrait subjects, reveal the stories behind the photographs. Jamel Shabazz Street Photographer celebrates a unique artist who reflects the African American community and modern life.

R.I.P Ryan Dunn

On June 20, 2011 at approximately 3:30 am EDT, Dunn died in a car crash in West Goshen Township, Pennsylvania[7]. Reports from TMZ state that he posted a photo of him drinking with friends hours beforehand.[8] At the time of the accident, Dunn was believed to have been traveling over 110 mph (180 km/h). An unidentified occupant of the vehicle was also found dead at the scene.[8] WKST-FM reported that both of the bodies had suffered severe burns, and the emergency medical technicians experienced difficulty in identifying the vehicle's occupants; Dunn was reportedly identified by his tattoos and facial hair[9]. The crash kept the section of route 322 between New Street and Pottsville Pike closed for almost six hours.[7]

Lost Prison Interview

Tupac's shooter confessed to shooting after 17 years
"Alleged triggerman, Dexter Isaac, is claiming in a letter that was obtained by AllHipHop.com that 'Pac's former associate, Jimmy "Henchman" Rosemond, paid him $2,500 to do the robbery at Manhattan's Quad Studios in November 1994.
Isaac, who is currently serving life in prison for murder, robbery, fraud and witness-intimidation charges, tells a different story. "I want to apologize to his family [Tupac Shakur] and for the mistake I did for that sucker [Jimmy Henchman]," Isaac told AllHipHop.com from prison. "I am trying to clean it up to give [Tupac's and Biggie's] mothers some closure."

Jelly Fish Lake

JELLYFISH LAKE from Sarosh Jacob on Vimeo.

"Jellyfish Lake is located on Eli Malk island in the Republic of Palau. Twelve thousand years ago these jellyfish became trapped in a natural basin on the island when the ocean receded. With no predators amongst them for thousands of years, they evolved into a new species that lost most of their stinging ability as they no longer had to protect themselves. They are pretty much harmless to humans although some people with very sensitive skin may get a minor sting from them. If you are allergic to jellyfish you should wear a wetsuit or protective clothing..."

Benny Diar - Painting a G scale train

"I don’t do many, if any graffiti on model trains much anymore. I was invited to be featured in “The Art of Transportation” art show Crewest Gallery in Los Angeles. It was a good fit because before being paralyzed, I am most known for painting freight trains that travel throughout North America. Since being paralyzed I have painted a decent amount of model trains with acrylics by mouth but have since been concentrating on painting portraits. I painted this model PBR G scale train because I wanted to have something new for the show that hadn’t been seen before. I had a couple of my caregivers film me and I spent the last couple days editing this video."-

Straight destroying!!

Congrats to Dallas!

As most of you already knew, the Dallas Mavs eliminated the Miami Heat last night to be the 2011 Champion (first time for the Mavs). The same dudes who whooped on our Lakers. Even though it was awful to get the feeling that we won't have our threepeat.. I'm happy we didn't get pushed out late in the playoffs. What I'm more happy to see if that the new BIG 3 did not get their first championship in their first try. Call me a hater but Lebron is a douche. Great overall player but a dick with no respect for his old fans and all the other NBA fans.

Watch his press conference about what he thinks about all the LBJ haters love watching him fail. SKIP to 2:50. Listen to his punk ass answer!

Can't wait for next year for the Lakers to take it down!!

R.I.P DREAM SMD

Los Angeles Legend DREAM SMD sadly passed away May 28, 2011.
DREAM was a big part of LA graffiti history. He was a little before my time, but I always admired his work and his love for Graff. Much respect to the man and Rest In Paint DREAM SMD!
Check out his Fundraiser and pay your respects.

Below: VIA: RISK MSK WCA
Robert Tagudar aka DREAM

August 3, 1964 to May 28, 2011

DREAM was the epitome of everything I stand for; we shared the motto, “On to the next, burn to the last.” He loved all aspects of graffiti, but chose to strip his work down to two colors. He didn’t want anyone to be able to say he hid behind colors or characters. He wanted his pure style to show through—and it did. He was a true king.

On a personal level, DREAM was a good friend. He was always there for me—up until the very end. He came to the graffiti exhibition at the Pasadena Museum of California Art, and he came to my show, Blurring the Lines, at Corey Helford Gallery.

He told me he wasn’t feeling well, and left the opening early. Later that night, he texted me and told me he was proud of me.

Well, brother, I’m proud of you. You always held your head high, never complained, and were humble, loyal and strong.

You did your last piece for Art in the Streets, and it seems like everything we dreamed of as young writers in the 1980s is finally coming true. I wish you were still here to enjoy it with me, but either way, you always be a pillar of West Coast graffiti.

Thank you for being an inspiration and, most importantly, being a friend.

Rest in peace.
