SAND - BOW TIES 4/29
SAND ONE Presents:
"Bow Ties Sand Chikz"A week long exhibition showcasing new mixed media works by LA's youngest female street artist.
Los Angeles- From corn carts and taco stands to the Art Basel walls of Miami, this pint sized artist continues to leave a larger than life mark in every town she visits. In only two years Sand's signature mob of buxom female cartoon characters, known as "Sand Chikz," have taken the art community by storm....
Join us in celebration of Sand's first solo exhibit, on April 29 starting at 6pm, at Casa de la Cultura located -1711 Mariachi Plaza De Los Angeles, between 1st St and North Boyle Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90033
Sand's first solo exhibition, "Bow Ties," will feature her signature ultra-feminine and hood "Sand Chikz" in a different light. Each Sand Chik will be dressed in a tuxedo, symbolizing class, authority, and power; three characteristics often associated with masculinity and wealth. In "Bow Ties" Sand One's objective is to liberate the gender biased restrictions often imposed on women while also questioning the relationship between street and fine art.
Guest Artists:
3rd-i
Alakazia
Argon
Franz Garcia
The show will feature girls who embody the spirit of "Sand Chikz," as well as music and refreshments.
Gift bags including Sand One Prints and bows will be given to the first five guests wearing bow ties!
Sand's artwork featured in "Bow Ties" will gladly donate part of the sales proceeds to benefit the Venice Public Art Walls, managed by In Creative Unity-a graffiti arts advocacy group and leaders of the movement to preserve the walls as a living memorial to high quality graffiti style art.

"CATS FOUND"- CAT CULT
April 29th 6-9pm ~ “CATS FOUND” ~ New Works By Cat Cult ~ 1528 W. Sunset Blvd.
Cat Cult is a collective of artists who are based in Los Angeles, California. Its participants create work both individually and under the singular identity of Cat Cult, displaying work in galleries as well as on the streets. Cat Cult embraces a variety of mediums, including printmaking, illustration, photography, painting, sewing, and graphic design. From trickster characters to divining spiritual guides, cats have been used throughout history to represent important figures within ancient fables and myths in cultures and societies across the globe. Cat Cult embraces these multidimensional identities that the cat embodies and plays upon these iconic ideas in playful and ironic ways throughout the urban environment. SPONSORED BY PABST BLUE RIBBON
Street Brewed, 4/29 Art district
April 29th 7pm ~ Angel City Brewing ~ 216 S. Alameda (@traction)
Nearly 25 internationally known artists – many included in MOCA’s current “Art in the Streets” show – are showing new original works produced on 10×12 wood panels in “Street Brewed: An Exhibition of Contemporary Street Art,” the inaugural presentation of Angel City Brewing’s new Downtown Los Angeles art space. New York-based Ron English created “X-Ray Guernica” and Shepard Fairey installed a mural from his current series depicting sly visual commentary on the apotheosis of Ronald Reagan in American political mythmaking. Expected to rotate during the exhibition’s run, the current artist roster for “Street Brewed” includes ABCNT, Lady Aiko, Augor MSK, becca, Cern, Cryptik, Dabs Myla, D*Face, Easo, Ron English, Eye One, Shepard Fairey, James Haunt, Logan Hicks, How & Nosm, JR, Kid Zoom, Phil Lumbang, Mear One, Ernesto Yerena Montejano, Nomadé, Saber, Swoon, and Tanner.
“Street Brewed” is on view free of charge from April 29 to July 10 during Angel City Brewing’s operating hours of Thursday and Friday, 5 p.m. to closing; and Saturday and Sunday, 2 p.m. to closing. Pints of the brewery’s award-winning, locally handcrafted beer are only $5 during the exhibition’s run. The opening reception also includes live painting by becca, DJ music, and food trucks. Prints of selected artworks will be for sale.
The exhibition was produced by Angel City Brewing with support by the Los Angeles Downtown Arts District Space (LADADspace) and with coordination by Lahoda Fine Arts in partnership with a legendary, but anonymous member of the street art scene. To learn more, visit www.angelcitybrewing.com.

The Miami Dream Pt. 1
THE MIAMI DREAM Part1 from Askew One on Vimeo.
In December 2010, 15 members of TMD crew ventured from New Zealand and Australia to attend Primary Flight in Miami. This 3 part video series offers a glimpse into TMD’s unique perspective and experiences during the event.
TMD’s travel was mostly self-funded but also made possible through support from those generous people that bought tickets or art work from ‘The Miami Dream’ exhibition and also those that gave their time and resources to help make it a reality. To the sponsors and supporters – we are truly grateful to everyone and the experience inspired and motivated us and further strengthened our dynamic as a family of artists.

LA MOCA - ART IN THE STREETS 4/17 - 8/8
Art in the Streets is the first major U.S. museum survey of graffiti and street art. Curated by MOCA Director Jeffrey Deitch and Associate Curators Roger Gastman and Aaron Rose, the exhibition will trace the development of graffiti and street art from the 1970s to the global movement it has become today, concentrating on key cities such as New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, London, and So Paulo, where a unique visual language or attitude has evolved. The exhibition will feature paintings, mixed media sculptures, and interactive installations by 50 of the most dynamic artists and will emphasize Los Angeles뭩 role in the evolution of graffiti and street art, with special sections dedicated to seminal local movements such as cholo graffiti and Dogtown skateboard culture. A comprehensive timeline illustrated with artwork, photos, video, and ephemera will provide a historical context for the work.
Art in the Streets is made possible by The Eli and Edythe Broad Foundation.
This exhibition is generously supported by the Sydney Irmas Exhibition Endowment.
Major support is provided by Levi's. Additional support is provided by Mandy and Cliff Einstein, Nike SB, MOCA Contemporaries, MOCA Partners, and Montana Colors.
